The authorities at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport have fast-tracked the upgrade of runway 07L to meet Category 4F standards, allowing it to accommodate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and will significantly enhance the airport’s ability to handle larger, long-haul flights.
The construction involves demolishing the old runway and building a new one capable of supporting the Airbus A380, which has a capacity to carry up to 600 passengers.
Several international airlines, including Emirates, have already shown interest in using the upgraded runway for their large aircraft operations.
