The Sindh government has imposed restrictions on the sale of baby formula milk, making a doctor’s prescription mandatory for its purchase across the province.

The measure comes under the Sindh Protection and Promotion of Breastfeeding Child Nutrition Law, recently passed by the Sindh Assembly to promote breastfeeding and improve child nutrition.
Under the new law, formula milk can no longer be sold at medical stores across Sindh without a prescription from a doctor.
The legislation seeks to regulate the availability and promotion of artificial milk products while encouraging breastfeeding as part of efforts to improve infant and child nutrition.
The law also requires companies manufacturing or selling formula milk to clearly label their products as “artificial milk” on the packaging.
Authorities have introduced penalties for violations of the new regulations.
Those found breaching the law may face a fine of up to Rs500,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, according to the legislation.

The Sindh government said the measures are aimed at strengthening breastfeeding practices and protecting child nutrition across the province.
The new restrictions will require retailers, healthcare providers and formula milk companies to comply with the prescribed regulations.
