Karachi has been officially re-admitted to the ‘C40 Cities’ network after a three-year suspension, Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced earlier this week.

The C40 network consists of major global cities working to tackle climate change.

The city’s membership was suspended in 2022, but it has now been restored following efforts to develop a Paris-Aligned Climate Action Plan (CAP).

Mark Watts, the executive director of C40, praised Karachi’s progress and expressed confidence that the city would meet the 2021-2024 Leadership Standards by March 2025, including the completion and implementation of the CAP.

Mayor Wahab stressed that Karachi must continue to accelerate its efforts to meet all C40 requirements, emphasizing the city’s commitment to achieving international environmental standards for a sustainable future.
