WhatsApp – the meta-owned messaging service company – has relocated its operations outside Pakistan due to recent internet slowdowns and disruptions.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA’s) official document, the popular messaging service moved its session server routing abroad after disruptions in the country’s internet services.
The PTA confirmed that the relocation of WhatsApp’s Content Delivery Network (CDN) caused connection issues for many users, making it difficult to maintain communication.
Despite improvements in internet speeds across fixed-line and mobile networks, PTA reported, the country still faces significant challenges.
Fixed-line internet speed in Pakistan has reportedly improved by two tiers, with the country now ranked 139th globally.
Mobile internet services have also improved by three tiers, placing Pakistan at 97th in the global ranking.
However, the overall impact of slow internet speeds continues to affect businesses and users in Pakistan.
