A fresh-water crisis looms over the city as a leak in the water supply line on University Road near Nipa Chowrangi disrupts services to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, as per media reports.
The leak, caused by ongoing development work on one of Karachi’s busiest roads, has resulted in difficulties for residents in the affected areas.
In addition to the water disruption, standing water on the road near the old Sabzi Mandi makes it challenging to travel from the Civic Center to Kashmir Park.
The situation has worsened the already congested traffic, which is further hindered by the ongoing construction of a public transport project.
Despite several days passing since the leak was detected, authorities have not yet resolved the issue, leaving commuters and citizens struggling with the traffic disruptions.
Earlier to this, Karachi continues to face a severe water shortage in key areas such as Clifton, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and Liaquatabad, despite the completion of repair work on the crucial 84-inch water line at University Road.
According to media reports, the residents of the aforementioned neighborhoods have been grappling with water scarcity for several days, with no immediate relief in sight.
The water shortage started after the main line burst last week, leading to a 150 MGD deficit in the city’s water supply.
This disruption not only affected water availability but also caused significant traffic disruptions as the main road near Karachi University flooded.
While the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) initially set a 72-hour deadline for repairs, the completion of the work took an entire week due to the discovery of additional damage in another nearby section of the water line.
