At least 16 security personnel were martyred during an attack by militants on a check post in the Makeen area of South Waziristan on the night of December 20-21, 2024, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

As per ISPR, on night of December 20-21, 2024, a group of Khwarij attempted to attack a Security Forces Check Post in general area Makeen, South Waziristan District.

The attack was swiftly countered by Pakistani troops, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire in which eight militants were killed.

Despite the successful defense, 16 soldiers embraced martyrdom during the intense battle.

A sanitization operation is currently underway in the region, with security forces determined to track down and bring the attackers to justice.

Despite the heavy losses, the Pakistani military remains determined to eradicate terrorism, with the sacrifices of the soldiers strengthening the resolve to ensure peace and security in the region.
