The Karachi administration has announced new wheat flour prices, which will come into effect from December 17.

According to a notification issued by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, the wholesale price of fine wheat flour is set at Rs 92 per kilogram (kg), with the same price for ex-flour mill sales, while the retailers will sell fine wheat flour at Rs 99 per kg.

In addition, the price of chakki flour has been fixed at Rs 115 per kg.

The retail price of regular wheat flour (2½ No. Atta) will be Rs 94 per kg, while the wholesale rate stands at Rs 90 per kg.

This move comes after a rise in flour prices in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other districts in Punjab, where the price of an 80kg flour bag increased by Rs 1300.

In response, the Naan Bai Association has called an emergency meeting to discuss the impact on the price of bread (roti).

The federal government recently abolished a 5.5 percent advance income tax after successful negotiations with flour mill owners.

Before this, flour mills had staged a strike to protest the tax imposed in the 2024-25 budget.
