Top 20 weak passwords of 2024 that need to be changed

In this modern world, billions of people use the internet globally and choose passwords for their emails, social media accounts, and other digital websites.

However, surprisingly most people still use passwords that even kids can guess.

Cybersecurity experts have revealed the 20 most popular, and vulnerable, passwords in 2024, urging users to improve their online security.

NordPass, a cybersecurity company, analyzed 2.5 TB of publicly available data containing leaked passwords.

Topping the list, once again, is “123456,” followed by other easy-to-guess choices like “123456789” and “12345678.”

These simple sequences, despite warnings, remain common, with “password,” “qwerty123,” and “111111” also ranking among the top ten.

12345 came in eighth, while secret and 123123 were ranked 9th and 10th respectively.

1234567890 came in 11th, followed by 1234567 and 000000, which were ranked 12th and 13th respectively, while qwerty and abc123 were ranked 14th and 15th respectively.

password1, iloveyou, 11111111, dragon and monkey came in at 16th to 20th place respectively.

As per a cybersecurity company, 18 out of these 20 passwords can be hacked in under a second, underscoring how easily online accounts can be compromised.

Experts emphasize the need for complex, unique passwords for every account to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

While tech companies are researching password alternatives, experts advise users not to wait for future solutions.

Instead, users should create unique, hard-to-guess passwords for each account immediately.

By avoiding easily guessed passwords, individuals can significantly enhance their online security, safeguarding personal and sensitive information against potential cyber threats.
