According to the council’s quarterly water quality report for July to September 2026, samples from 223 bottled water brands were collected from 20 cities and tested for chemical and microbiological contamination.
The report found that 195 brands met the required quality standards, while over 25 were declared unsafe. Six brands failed chemical tests, while over 20 were found to have microbiological contamination.
PCRWR’s findings highlight concerns over the quality of commercially available bottled drinking water and the need for regular monitoring to protect public health.

The monitoring programme aims to assess whether bottled water brands meet the quality standards set for drinking water and to inform consumers about potential health risks.
Consumers are advised to consult the detailed PCRWR report for the specific findings related to individual brands and products.
