Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim candidate running for mayor of New York City, has responded to threats made by President Donald Trump.
In an Instagram post, Mamdani revealed that Trump had threatened to arrest him, strip him of his U.S. citizenship, imprison him, and even deport him.
Mamdani made it clear that the threat wasn’t due to any illegal actions on his part but because of his strong opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which he believes engages in harmful and unjust practices.
He expressed that Trump’s attack was not just an assault on him but on New York’s democracy and its citizens. Mamdani emphasized that if people continue to raise their voices against injustice, they too could face similar threats.
In the past, Trump has harshly criticized Mamdani, calling him a “communist” and describing him as “bad news” for America.
He even mocked the idea of Mamdani coming to the White House to ask for funds, calling it ‘fun’ to see him do so. Trump further claimed that if New Yorkers elected Mamdani, they would be making a ‘crazy’ choice.
Despite the ongoing attacks, Mamdani has gained significant traction in the race.
He won the first round of the Democratic primary with over 400,000 votes, securing a strong lead over his rival, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
