Sindh declares May 1 as public holiday for Labour Day

The government of Sindh announced on Friday that May 1 will be observed as a public holiday in the province to commemorate Labour Day.

A notification issued by Chief Secretary Sindh confirmed the declaration of a public holiday for all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government, excluding essential services.

While the federal government is yet to make an official announcement regarding the holiday, people are anticipating the confirmation eagerly.

Labour Day, celebrated on May 1st globally, is a day dedicated to recognizing the contributions of workers and advocating for their rights. The Cabinet Division circular for this year already includes May 1 as a public holiday, and Punjab and other regions are expected to follow suit with formal announcements for holidays in schools and offices in the coming days.

It is anticipated that Pakistan’s central bank will also declare May 1 as a bank holiday in observance of International Labor Day.
