Unidentified attackers opened fire on a police officer in Karachi’s SITE neighbourhood, killing him.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Keamari Fida Hussain told the media that police officers tried to halt the suspects on motorbikes, but they opened fire on them.
According to the SSP statement, the chief constable was shot in the neck, while another police official was injured.
According to SSP Keamari, the perpetrators will be apprehended soon.
Hussain stated that it was too soon to determine if the accused were street criminals or terrorists.
The event was reported to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who requested an instant report from AIG Karachi. He also ordered that the killers be apprehended right away.
Earlier in the day, the armed men involved in mugging citizens at the Bahria traffic signal in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) were arrested after an alleged encounter.
The CCTV footage of the mugging incident went viral on social media that showed them looting the citizens in broad daylight in DHA.
The two street criminals were arrested by the District South Police late Tuesday night after an encounter.
