The Sindh cabinet approved Rs5 million in compensation for two telecom workers killed in a mob attack in the metropolis’ Machhar Colony on Monday.
An angry mob killed the two men, Aimen Javed of Thatta and Ishaq Maher of Naushehroferoze, last Friday after hearing rumours that they were there to kidnap children.
In his briefing to the cabinet, Sindh Inspector-General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that they were visiting the area to "check the signals of the mobile tower.”
The IG informed the cabinet that 15 people identified in the incident footage had been arrested.
Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister for the Rehabilitation of Special Children Sadiq Ali Memon, IGP Memon, and Home Secretary Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo will serve on the committee.
The committee has also been tasked with determining whether a "mob management police force” is required to handle such cases.
If a force is formed, it will receive relevant training and be outfitted with the necessary equipment and weapons.
The committee will deliberate on the issue and make recommendations.
