A 22-year-old student lost his life after at least five hospitals in Karachi refused to treat injuries he sustained in a road accident.
According to ARY News, the diver of the ambulance and eye-witnesses said that the youngster identified as Arif, sustained injuries in a road accident near Karimabad bridge.
Lack of treatment and shifting him from hospital to hospital in Karachi led to Arif’s death. Sources claim that a report has been prepared over the incident and two government hospitals including Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre are blamed for their negligence in this regard.
“A final decision on action against the two establishments will be taken by health minister Azra Fazl Pechuhu,” ARY News quoted the source as saying.
Sharing the timeline of the incident, eye-witnesses and the ambulance driver said that Arif Hashim got injured in a road accident on September 12 and he was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby that lacked needed medical facility to treat him.
He was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where staffers said that the hospital lacks CT Scan and neurosurgery facility. Arif was then moved to JPMC, where authorities refused to treat him, saying that the hospital does not treat patients whose identities have not been ascertained.
Arif was once again brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and that is where he lost his life.
