Eight police officers from Karachi’s Surjani police station have submitted a complaint against the strict actions and insulting behavior of a civil judge, as reported by ARY News on Monday. The officers addressed a letter to the Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Investigation, expressing concerns about the judge’s actions affecting their morale and hindering their ability to perform their duties effectively.
According to the complaint, the civil judge has made it a regular practice to penalize police officers, leading to a demoralized workforce unable to carry out their duties efficiently due to the humiliation they face. The officers highlighted that the local court is not accepting case challans in adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and scheduling hearings as early as 8:30 am.
The letter emphasized that officers are compelled to remain in the court premises from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, restricting their ability to approach other courts. In cases of late arrivals, police officers are reportedly handcuffed and sent to jail. The complaint cited instances where Sub-Inspectors Tariq Khalid and Shakeel Mehmood were incarcerated for two days, and Sub-Inspector Sohail Ahmed was jailed for a week without bail.
The officers expressed concerns about the court’s alleged mistreatment, such as forcing SI Sohail Khan to sweep the courtroom and handcuffing three officers, parading them around the City Court. They stated that abusive remarks were directed at the police officers in the courtroom, creating a hostile environment in front of lawyers and other individuals.
The officers asserted that the fear instilled by the court has impacted their ability to conduct proper investigations and carry out their duties effectively. The complaint raises issues regarding the treatment of police officers in court proceedings and urges authorities to address the matter promptly.
