The Karachi police have gotten into a contract with NRTC (National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation) — a subsidiary of the Ministry of Defence — to procure 800 800 body-cams for on-grounds officials of the force.
“It’s an Rs120 million project that includes the procurement of body cameras, their deployment and proper training of its use among the personnel. Among the consignment of 800 cameras, 250 would be handed over to the Karachi traffic police. The whole process may take a month or a little more to complete,” an unnamed official was quoted as saying by Dawn.
DIG-Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema confirmed that the department had already been “formally informed” about getting 250 bodycams for its force and that these would be distributed among personnel who had been authorised to deal directly with commuters and traffic violators.
