The Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Talha Mahmood, announced that the cost of Hajj has been reduced to $3,900 from $5,000 due to the prudent policies of the coalition government. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he highlighted that over four billion rupees have been returned to pilgrims, and any remaining amount will also be refunded.
The reduced package of $3,900 includes airfare, transportation within Saudi Arabia, accommodation, food, and the pilgrims’ stay at Mina and Arafat. The Minister emphasized that transparency has been prioritized in this year’s Hajj season, ensuring that state funds are not used for individual Hajj expenses.
Talha Mahmood further mentioned that approximately eighty percent of Pakistani pilgrims have been provided accommodations close to Markaziya in Madina, enhancing their convenience during the pilgrimage.
Regarding the role of Hajj Moavineen, the Minister clarified that their purpose is to serve the pilgrims and not to perform Hajj themselves. He stressed the importance of their dedicated service to facilitate a smooth Hajj experience for all.
Furthermore, Talha Mahmood dispelled any notion of providing free Hajj facilities to the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, and his family. He assured the public that state resources would not be utilized for the personal Hajj arrangements of any individual.
The reduction in Hajj expenditure and the emphasis on transparency reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring an affordable and accessible Hajj experience for Pakistani pilgrims.
