The Punjab Drug Control authorities have discovered a batch of suspected counterfeit Ciproxin 500 mg tablets in Kasur, raising concerns about public health and safety. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drape) has issued a rapid alert about the fake medicine, warning that it may contain harmful substances, including psychotropic, narcotic, and toxic ingredients.
Ciproxin 500 mg is an antibiotic used to treat chest, throat, and urinary infections. However, the fake medicine poses serious risks to patients as it is manufactured with substandard and potentially dangerous ingredients. The use of counterfeit and substandard medicines can have detrimental effects on treatment outcomes and jeopardize patients’ health.
Drape has contacted the pharmaceutical company, Buyers Pakistan Lahore, which manufactures Ciproxin, to inquire about the authenticity of the available batch. However, the company has shown indifference towards the batch of Ciproxin marked as BAA 928, declaring it as fake.
In response to the discovery, Drape has directed its field force to seize the counterfeit batch of Ciproxin from the market. Chemists and pharmacies have been urged to thoroughly check their stock to prevent the sale of the fake medicine. Provincial teams of Drape will intensify surveillance in the medicine market to ensure public safety. Additionally, doctors have been requested to inform their patients about the existence of the counterfeit batch of Ciproxin and advise them not to use it.
The circulation of counterfeit medicines poses a serious threat to public health. Drape is taking decisive action to address this issue and protect the well-being of the population. It is crucial for healthcare professionals, chemists, and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious medicines to the appropriate authorities to ensure the availability of safe and genuine medications.
