Empress Market’s iconic clock tower to be restored

Sindh Government has decided to restore the iconic clock tower situated at the Empress Market to it is original glory. The initiative was announced by Murtaza Wahab, adviser to the Sindh chief minister on Law and Environment, who took to twitter and tweeted, “#SindhGovt will restore the majestic building of #EmpressMarketKarachi

Empress Market, named after Queen Victoria, stands as a symbol of British Raj in Karachi today and was constructed between 1884 and 1889.

As per the plans, a green park will surround the area in order to compliment the Jahangir Park in the locality. The structure has already been illuminated with lights in order to beautify it.

Earlier this month Sindh Chief Minister had expressed his desire to work on the heritage buildings of Karachi and to renovate them.  The encroachments in Saddar around the Empress Market had been pulled down and a detailed plan was drawn to restore the Empress Market. The plan of the government is to work on beautifying the city and restoring it to its earlier prestige.
