Caretaker Interior Minister of Sindh, Brigadier Retired Haris Nawaz, has pledged severe punishment for the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) involved in the Orangi Town incident. During a media interaction, Minister Haris Nawaz stated that the under-training DSP should not have been assigned such tasks. Immediate action was taken in response to the incident, with the DSP’s arrest and the registration of an FIR. He emphasized that strict consequences will follow.
The caretaker Home Minister of Sindh also pointed out the fault of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in the matter. The Inspector General (IG) of Police has suspended the SSP, and further necessary actions will be taken against him.
Responding to a question, Brigadier Retired Haris Nawaz expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the police, stating that since the caretaker government assumed office, there have been no crimes reported in slum areas.
Highlighting the role of police and law enforcement agencies, he emphasized that their purpose is to serve the people. Regarding the incident involving businessman Mansoor Sheikh’s allegations against DSP Umair Tariq, who was arrested in connection with the incident in Gulshan Iqbal 13D, the minister mentioned that the accused would face strict legal consequences. DSP Umair Tariq has been remanded for one day after being produced in court.
