Armed Karachi robbers flee with Rs 2 Crore, injure security guard

A brazen daylight robbery took place on Karachi’s busy II Chundrigar Road, where armed assailants made off with Rs 2 crore, leaving a security guard injured. The incident, captured on CCTV footage, has sent shockwaves through the city, raising concerns over the safety of citizens in one of the busiest financial districts in Pakistan.

The robbery unfolded in the parking area of a bank, where the victim, accompanied by a security guard, had arrived to deposit a large sum of money. According to police reports, two armed robbers on a motorcycle targeted the citizen and his guard as they were about to enter the bank. The CCTV footage, now circulating widely on social media, shows the robbers swiftly approaching the victim, drawing their weapons, and demanding the cash.

In the tense moments that followed, the security guard attempted to resist the robbers, but his brave efforts were met with gunfire. The footage shows the guard being shot in the stomach by one of the robbers before they made off with the cash. The injured guard, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The Karachi Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the robbery. Speaking to the media, officials confirmed that the robbers fled the scene on a motorcycle, and efforts are underway to trace their whereabouts. “We are analyzing the CCTV footage and gathering all available evidence to apprehend the culprits,” said a senior police officer. The footage clearly shows the faces of the robbers, which authorities hope will lead to a swift arrest.

The police have also urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation. “We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any knowledge about the suspects to report it to the nearest police station,” the officer added.

This incident has sparked widespread concern among Karachi residents, particularly those who frequent the II Chundrigar Road, known as the financial hub of the city. The road is home to numerous banks, corporate offices, and financial institutions, making it a prime target for criminal activities.

Local business owners and residents have expressed their frustration over the apparent lack of security in such a critical area. "It’s shocking that something like this could happen in broad daylight on one of the busiest roads in Karachi. The authorities need to step up their game to ensure the safety of people and their property,” said a local businessman.

In the wake of the robbery, there are growing calls for the implementation of enhanced security measures, particularly in areas with high foot traffic and financial activity. Experts have suggested increasing the presence of law enforcement personnel, installing more CCTV cameras, and conducting regular security drills to deter potential criminals.

The police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. “We are reviewing our security protocols and will be working closely with bank officials and local businesses to ensure that the safety of citizens is not compromised,” the police spokesperson stated.
