Prime Minister’s adviser on finance, Dr. Hafeez Sheikh makes major blunder

Amidst public outcry on the high prices of tomatoes across Karachi, Dr Sheikh appeared ill informed as he claimed tomatoes were being sold for Rs 17 per kg at sabzi mandi. His statement unleashed mocking remarks from reporters around who asked him for his shopping stores. His supporters around tried to grab the mobile camera being used to record the incident.

The Minister realizing his major blunder tried to cover up and added that prices of commodities needed to be kept in check. He commented on the absence of efficient storing facilities to protect the yield of agricultural crops.

Tomatoes are being sold at an alarming rate of Rs 150-250 per kg at wholesale stores in Karachi. The retail outlets are charging Rs 240- 300 to further sell them in the city.

Prices of other vegetables have soared as well:

Garlic and ginger are being sold at Rs 400 per kg.

Potatoes and onions are at Rs 50 and Rs 80, respectively.

Cucumbers cost Rs 80 per kg.

Peas cost Rs 200 per kg.

The sharp increase in prices have left citizens distressed and demanding action by the Government to check the illegal price hiking of food items.
