The video sharing platform, YouTube, is set to introduce a new way to generate revenue or another source of income for the creators on the platform.
This new feature called Jewels allows creators to earn income through live streams.
The digital currency, Jewels, will enable viewers to send virtual gifts to their favourite creators, similar to Facebook and TikTok’s live gift features.
During live streams, users will be able to send Jewels as gifts, with 1 ruby worth 1 US cent, and 100 rubies valued at 1 dollar.
YouTube also announced that creators will receive a 50 percent bonus on earnings from Jewels for the next three months.
However, this new feature is currently available for the users in US, with plans to expand to other countries soon. Meanwhile, only creators who live stream on the platform are eligible to benefit from Jewels.
The feature is available exclusively through the YouTube mobile app.
