The Safe City Project in Karachi continues to make significant progress with a total of 128 poles have been installed at various locations to support surveillance efforts.
Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hasan Linjar recently visited the Safe City Authority, accompanied by Sindh Home Secretary Iqbal Memon and other key officers.
During the visit, Minister Linjar stressed that the Jinnah International Airport should be the focal point for the project, with cameras covering the sides and corridor of the airport, as well as major roads like Shahrae Faisal and the Red Zone area.
Minister Linjar expressed optimism, stating that the installed cameras would become an effective tool in combating crime.
"Once criminals are captured on camera, it will be hard for them to escape,” he said. He also stressed that the Safe City Project would significantly enhance citizen protection.

Project Director Asif Ijaz Sheikh briefed officials on the progress and ongoing efforts, including the completion of a survey for 300 poles at various strategic points. Discussions are also underway with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to resolve any issues related to the project.
Sheikh further stated that the control room, data center equipment, and video wall have been successfully set up at the Central Police Office (CPO), where live monitoring from 25 cameras us conducting.
The project aims to enhance safety by installing cameras at 50 pole sites across the city. The installation of electric meters for these poles has been requested from Karachi Electric (KE), with an estimated cost of 1.15 million.
These meters will enable the operation of 170 cameras, further strengthening the city’s surveillance system. While the procurement of five emergency response vehicles has been completed, the purchase of additional vehicles is pending approval from the Sindh Cabinet.
