Gaddafi Stadium upgradation reaches 50pc completion

The Gaddafi Stadium Upgradation Project in Lahore has reached a significant milestone, with approximately 50 percent of the overall work reportedly completed.

The teams working on the project have accelerated the efforts to enhance the stadium’s enclosures and the main building floors, while the floors of both the main and office buildings nearing completion.

The revamped main building will feature a cricket museum and a souvenir shop for visitors.

Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, recently conducted a detailed inspection of the stadium to assess the project’s progress and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction work.

During a meeting at the camp office of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), Naqvi reviewed the project’s features through architectural drawings.

He directed the FWO and relevant authorities to ensure that the parking area remains spacious, enhance the exterior aesthetics of the main building, and directed to complete the project as per the established timeline.

Naqvi highlighted the urgency of completing the project of the stadium before the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, stating that the venue is being transformed to meet world-class standards, which will elevate the experience for both players and cricket fans alike.

Earlier to this, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi conducted a visit to the National Bank Cricket Stadium to inspect ongoing renovations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Wednesday.

During the stadium inspection, Naqvi stressed the importance of enhancing the crowd’s experience. He directed the team to reposition the electronic score screen for optimal viewing.

“We want fans to have an uninterrupted view of the matches, so adjusting the screen placement is a priority,” he stated.

Mohsin Naqvi also instructed the relevant authorities to move the parking area closer to the stadium to facilitate the general public.

“The upgradation project should be accelerated with day and night efforts for the upcoming tournament,” he urged.

The Champions Trophy 2025 – scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan from February to March – may face uncertainties surrounding the participation of the neighboring country and Pakistan’s arch-rival, India, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awaits government approval to visit Pakistan for the tournament.
