Chief Minister of Sindh – Syed Murad Ali Shah – on Saturday inaugurated multibillion-rupee projects of a desalination plant to provide drinking water to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and a 17-story technology park at the NED University under the Public-private partnership to boost technology innovation in Karachi.
According to the Dawn report, CM Sindh chaired the 46th meeting of the Public Private Partnership Policy Board at CM House in which various plans for development were discussed.
The meeting was briefed about Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KSWC) efforts that have been initiated to desalinate seawater to provide safe drinking water to the citizens of Karachi.
As per the notification issued from the PM’s House, a Kuwaiti company has expressed interest in investing in setting up the desalination plant, and DHA authorities have indicated a willingness to purchase the desalinated water, Planning, and Development Minister Nasir Shah briefed the meeting.
Shah noted that the desalination project aims to address Karachi’s growing demand for clean water, reducing pressure on existing resources while improving health and quality of life in the metropolis.
Meanwhile, CM Sindh was informed that the Technology Park at the NED University is being established under a government-to-government arrangement with a Kuwaiti company.
The technology park is set to become Pakistan’s first fully integrated technology hub, with office spaces, research labs, incubators, auditoriums, and high-speed connectivity to support local and international companies.
Following an aeronautical study, the 218-foot-high building also received a green signal from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Sindh government has sanctioned Rs.1.7 billion for the project’s development, aiming to attract multinationals, SMEs, startups, and research firms.
Officials stressed that this project will promote Karachi as a technology hub and encourage investment in innovation and research.
Chief Minister Shah expressed confidence that these projects will strengthen Karachi’s infrastructure, address pressing water issues, and boost the city’s economic landscape.
