KE submits report on fatally electrocution incidents to NEPRA

K-Electric (KE) has submitted a detailed report to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) claiming that the individuals who lost their lives in its service areas during the fiscal year 2022-23 were mostly drug addicts.

The report listed multiple incidents, including a fatality at West Wharf where the victim was reportedly a drug addict and another case where an individual attempting to steal electricity was electrocuted.

In its report to NEPRA, KE stated that deaths also occurred in areas such as Malir, Gadap, and Gulshan-e-Maymar, where individuals allegedly attempting to steal high-voltage cables lost their lives.

Meanwhile, similar cases were also reported from Karachi’s SITE, Korangi, Bin Qasim, and Model Colony areas.

It is pertinent to mention here that NEPRA recently imposed a fined of Rs 10 million on KE, citing the company’s inadequate response to a show-cause notice issued in August 2023.

Additionally, NEPRA mandated compensation for one victim’s family and directed KE to offer employment to the family member of another victim, Muhammad Aslam.

In total, 33 citizens were reported to have died from electrocution in KE’s service areas during the 2022-23 fiscal year.
