End of an era: Suzuki discontinues iconic ‘carry daba’ Bolan

After decades of serving the streets of Pakistan, Pak Suzuki has officially discontinued the production of its iconic Suzuki Bolan, affectionately known as the ‘Cary Daba’. A staple in Pakistan’s transport industry, the Bolan has long been recognized for its role as a versatile passenger and commercial vehicle. However, in light of declining sales and outdated features, Suzuki has announced the end of production for this legendary vehicle.

Farewell to a Cultural Icon

The Suzuki Bolan has held a special place in the hearts of Pakistanis for years. Its utilitarian design made it a popular choice for businesses, schools, and families across the country. Despite its popularity, the vehicle has struggled to keep pace with the demands of the modern market. Lacking in safety features, comfort, and an updated design, the Bolan has become increasingly less appealing in the face of growing competition from more advanced vehicles.

According to industry insiders, the final Bolan to roll off the production line was marked with chassis number 01151691, marking the end of an era for the humble but beloved ‘Cary Daba’.

The Rise of a New Generation: Suzuki Every

While the Bolan may be retiring, Pak Suzuki has already lined up its successor: the Suzuki Every, a modern minivan with enhanced features and improved safety standards. Unveiled at a recent auto show, the Suzuki Every is set to launch in mid-October, provided that the import challenges and supply chain issues do not cause further delays.

The Suzuki Every boasts a more contemporary design, improved fuel efficiency, and advanced features, offering a much-needed upgrade from the Bolan. It is expected to serve a similar market, providing transportation solutions for families, businesses, and commercial operators.

Legacy of the Suzuki Bolan

The Bolan, often seen buzzing through city streets, ferrying passengers, goods, and school children, has been synonymous with practicality and affordability. Over the years, it became a vital component of Pakistan’s public transport network and an indispensable vehicle for commercial use. Its simple mechanics and availability of parts made it a cost-effective choice for many small businesses and service operators.

However, the minivan’s lack of safety features and its increasingly dated design ultimately led to its decline in popularity. Despite receiving updates over the years, the Bolan remained largely unchanged in its core design, making it less competitive in a market that has seen rapid advancements in automotive technology.

Price Details at Discontinuation

At the time of its discontinuation, the prices for the Suzuki Bolan variants were as follows:

  • Bolan VX Euro II: Rs 1,940,000
  • Suzuki Bolan Cargo Van Euro II: Rs 1,944,000

Earlier in May, Pak Suzuki Motor Company announced a price decrease of up to Rs710,000 on several of its models. However, this reduction was not enough to revive the dwindling demand for the Bolan, which has seen a steady decline in sales.

A Challenging Market for Automakers

Pak Suzuki’s decision to discontinue the Suzuki Bolan comes at a time when the automotive industry in Pakistan faces significant challenges. Rising production costs, increased competition, and import restrictions have placed considerable pressure on automakers. Pak Suzuki, in particular, has experienced difficulties, even extending its plant closure earlier this year due to economic challenges.

The introduction of the Suzuki Every signals a shift towards more feature-rich and competitive vehicles that cater to the evolving demands of Pakistani consumers. However, the company still faces potential delays due to import hurdles, which could affect the availability of the Every in the local market.
