The Sindh government has revealed its plan to transition major hospitals to solar power as part of its broader solar power initiative. Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, the Provincial Minister of Sindh for Energy, inaugurated a solar power park at the Karachi Press Club. This 60KV solar power project is expected to fulfill 90 percent of the press club’s power requirements.
Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh stated that government buildings, prisons, and schools will also be shifted to solar power, with the goal of eliminating electricity load shedding in Sindh. The provincial government aims to utilize solar energy to address the energy needs of key public institutions and contribute to the economic development of the province.
The minister expressed dissatisfaction with the PTI government, accusing them of creating obstacles in power projects in Sindh. He asserted that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will emerge victorious in the next elections and will work towards overcoming the economic crisis.
In a similar vein, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently directed the conversion of all federal government buildings in Islamabad to solar power within seven weeks. The prime minister emphasized the importance of reducing the country’s dependence on imported fuel and urged officials to complete the solarization project promptly. The prime minister’s directive also included launching solarization initiatives for federal government buildings in other parts of the country.
The initiatives taken by both the Sindh government and the federal government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reflect a commitment to harnessing renewable energy sources and reducing the country’s reliance on conventional energy. The shift towards solar power not only contributes to sustainable development but also helps mitigate the issue of power shortages and load shedding in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and public services.
