Sindh approves grace marks for 11th grade students

Sindh students grace marks

The Sindh Parliamentary Committee has approved awarding grace marks to 11th-grade students following widespread concerns over low pass percentages.

During a meeting at the Sindh Assembly, the Fact-Finding Committee’s report was presented, revealing that student performance in 11th grade has remained below 47 percent for the past decade.

The issue, which gained traction on social media, prompted officials to devise a formula for awarding grace marks – 15 marks for Physics and Mathematics and 20 marks for Chemistry.

The report highlighted multiple challenges faced by students, including delays in receiving Physics and Islamic Studies books and difficulty in understanding Physics content.

It also pointed out irregularities in the examination process, with teachers grading papers at home and not being compensated for their work.

Additionally, data entry errors in the IT section significantly impacted results, with 35 percent of pre-medical and 25 percent of pre-engineering cases requiring further review.

The committee recommended upgrading the IT system, training teachers and staff, and filling key vacant positions in the education board.

It also urged a comparative analysis of results from other Sindh education boards to address broader academic challenges.

Earlier in January 2025, the inquiry committee investigating the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) result has finalized its report, as per media reports.

The interim chairman of BIEK established the committee to address the concerns of students who failed in the pre-engineering and pre-medical groups of examinations.

The drop in the intermediate results ratio ignited widespread condemnation as the students affected by the outcomes alleged injustice grading by the board officials.

The BIEK Chairman – Ameer Qadri – was also removed from his position amid the protests by the students demanding rechecking or scrutiny of their papers after the result was announced.

The report suggested that the investigation committee will soon submit the finalized report to the BIEK Chairman.
