Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi expressed concerns over the team’s selection and management while speaking to the media in Karachi.
Afridi stated that some players should have been rested while deserving domestic performers should have been given a chance.
He criticized the decision to send inexperienced players with only ten or eleven matches to challenging conditions.
Afridi pointed out selection errors, stating that where four spinners were needed, only one was played, and where one was required, four were sent.
He stressed that the national team is not a place for learning and should not be treated like an under-14 squad. He also lamented the lack of a proper system in Pakistan, unlike other cricketing nations.
Afridi stressed the importance of bench strength, adding that Pakistan should not struggle in Shaheen Afridi’s absence.
He criticized the team management for keeping players like Usman Khan and Mohammad Hasnain on the squad but not giving them opportunities at the right time.
Talking about batting, Afridi said positive intent is not just about hitting sixes and fours but also about rotating the strike. He further called for a permanent head coach and chairman for betterment of Pakistan cricket.
Afridi questioned why Babar Azam was given captaincy for four years while Mohammad Rizwan only received six months.
