Summary forwarded to Sindh CM for appointment of VCs in Universities

Sindh Universities VCs appointment

A summary has been sent to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for the appointment of vice chancellors (VCs) in nine universities across the province.

The move comes as the incumbent VCs have completed their tenure. Until new appointments are finalized, acting VCs have been given temporary charge.

The universities awaiting new VCs include Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law, Karachi, Shaikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur, University of Sufism and Modern Sciences, Bhit Shah, University of Larkana, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Government College University, Hyderabad, and Shaheed Benazir University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Sakrand.

University teachers across Sindh have been protesting against bureaucrats being appointed as VCs.

Despite protests from the opposition, the provincial assembly passed the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 on February 17.

During the Sindh Assembly session, MQM-P lawmakers strongly opposed the bill, chanting slogans against the move. However, the Sindh government dismissed objections raised by the Sindh governor over the bill.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department has advertised the VC position at NED University. Candidates eligible to apply include bureaucrats (Grade 21+), deans, registrars, and academic experts.

The Sindh government’s approach to VC appointments remains controversial as stakeholders continue to raise concerns over political interference in university affairs.
