Pakistan’s head coach, Aqib Javed, addressed the media ahead of the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 showdown against India.
Speaking in Dubai, Javed expressed confidence in his team’s strengths and dismissed concerns over the playing conditions.
“We have three specialist pacers – Shaheen, Naseem, and Haris – who can perform like the greats of the 90s,” Javed said. “They still have time to reach that level, but they can deliver match-winning performances.”
Despite Pakistan’s opening defeat against New Zealand, Javed remained optimistic. “Losing the first game doesn’t mean anything. There’s always a chance to bounce back, win the next two, and make it to the semifinals,” he stated.
Javed also emphasized the unique intensity of an India-Pakistan match. “This rivalry goes beyond the game. It’s the perfect moment for players to make their mark. The excitement remains the same, no matter how many times you win or lose.”
On team selection, Javed stated, “You’ll see the playing XI at the toss. We won’t change our strategy based on what India does. We will play to our strengths,” he said.
Addressing Fakhar Zaman’s absence due to injury, Javed acknowledged his impact but stressed team depth. “Fakhar is a match-winner, but no team depends on one player. We will put out a strong side.”
With the stage set for another epic chapter in cricket’s greatest rivalry, Pakistan will aim to put their campaign back on track against an in-form Indian side.
