Karachi witnessed a rise in crime rates in January 2025 compared to December 2024, according to data released by the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

The data illustrates criminal activities – including snatching, theft of vehicles, and mobile phones, Kidnapping for ransom, extortion, homicide, and bank robbery/dacoity – in Karachi during January 2025.

The CPLC disclosed that a total of 1585 mobile phone snatching incidents were reported while at least 31 cars and 617 motorbikes were snatched from the citizens in the metropolis during the first month.

As per the data, a total of 151 cases of car and 3,413 cases of bike theft were reported in Karachi.

The police also receive three kidnappings for ransom, 11 extortion, and 54 homicide complaints from the citizens.

Comparing street crimes in Karachi against the last month, the city reported over 29.17% increase in car snatchings, 25.15% increase in bike snatching, and over 11% increase in mobile phone snatchings.

While the rate of car theft was increased by 2.03%, and bike theft also saw an increase of 7.84%.

Despite tall claims of Karachi police, street crime remains a pressing issue, as daily robberies continue to affect citizens.
