The Sindh People’s Bus Service has announced to increase in the fares by up to 60 percent in Karachi.
According to the details, the transport authority displayed the fare hike notice for the passengers on the busses with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 60 percent, applicable from February 01, 2025.
Under the new fare notification, passengers traveling within 15 kilometers will now pay Rs 80, while those traveling more than 15 kilometers will pay Rs 120.
It is worth mentioning here that currently, the minimum fare of the People’s Bus Service in Karachi is Rs 50 and the maximum fare is Rs 100.
On the other hand, Senior Provincial Minister – Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that over 100,000 passengers travel in the Red Line bus in Karachi every day, claiming that the government is providing a subsidy of Rs 50 per passenger under the People’s Bus Service project.
While holding a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, he stated that a proposal to eliminate or reduce the subsidy from the People’s Bus was proposed at the provincial cabinet meeting.
Sharjeel Memon clarified that the government is not taking a ‘single rupee’ profit in the fare of the People’s Bus service, but has reduced the subsidy to buy more EV buses.
