M-6 Motorway construction to begin in 2025 with Karachi-Sukkur focus: Aleem Khan

Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan confirmed that the construction of the M-6 Motorway will begin in 2025, with a focus on connecting Karachi to Sukkur, replacing the previously planned Hyderabad-Sukkur route.

Speaking during the Senate’s question hour session, Aleem Khan emphasized that the design of all interchanges on the motorway, including those on the M-6, will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the surrounding regions.

He stated that the project has been designated as a top priority by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while assuring that concerns raised by stakeholders would be addressed through consultations.

The minister also highlighted that the Hyderabad-Sukkur section will be tendered under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with its detailed design and cost estimations already finalized.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has submitted the Project Qualification Proposal (PQP) for approval by the Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A).

Regarding the Karachi-Hyderabad section, preparations for hiring consultants for a feasibility study are underway, with the approval process ongoing by the Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP).

Aleem Khan underlined the importance of both the M-6 and M-50 motorways in enhancing regional connectivity and boosting economic development.

He also noted that 44 percent of the budget for road infrastructure has been allocated to Balochistan, demonstrating the government’s commitment to equitable development.

“Timely and transparent execution of these projects is our utmost priority. We are determined to address regional disparities and ensure these projects are completed on schedule,” Aleem added, reaffirming the government’s vision for a more connected and prosperous Pakistan.
