Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the establishment of a cargo scanning system in Karachi and other key trading centers across Pakistan.
The announcement came after a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to review the development of Pakistan as a transit trade hub, during which cargo tracking issues were discussed.
According to an official statement, the PM emphasized the need to modernize the cargo tracking system, ordering the elimination of outdated tracking, tracing, and scanning methods at trading centers.
He stressed that a new system incorporating modern technology and third-party validation should be implemented to ensure the quality of cargo tracking services.
The PM highlighted the positive impact of improved tracking systems, noting a significant reduction in smuggling, which enabled the export of $211 million worth of sugar to Afghanistan this year.
He also stated that with an integrated communication system, Pakistan could become a key transit trade center for neighboring countries.
