Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness race against time: Can he make it to Pakistan clash?

The Indian team is facing a major setback ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 – scheduled to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9 –  as their premium fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss the tournament.

As per Indian media reports, the fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is most likely to miss the league stage of the tournament due to back swelling which he suffered during the final test of Border–Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Reports from Indian media suggest that Bumrah’s injury, which first occurred during the final Test against Australia in Sydney, has worsened, and his recovery timeline is uncertain, however, he may be fit by the first week of March, just before India’s final group match against New Zealand in Dubai on March 2.

However, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has asked him to report to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further assessment.

Due to Bumrah’s fitness, the BCCI has requested the ICC to extend the deadline for submitting the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

The initial deadline for the preliminary squad is January 12, but the ICC allows an extension without approval until February 11.

The BCCI selectors are expected to announce the squad closer to the tournament based on Bumrah’s fitness report.

As per Indian media, Bumrah might be named in the Champions Trophy squad, but his availability will be subject to his recovery.
