Karachi Mayor sets up helpline to report missing manhole covers

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has introduced a dedicated helpline to help residents report missing manhole covers.

According to media reports, the hotline, launched to ensure quick resolutions, allows citizens to report open manholes, with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) promising immediate action.

The mayor assured residents that the city would provide as many manhole covers as needed to enhance safety.

The residents of Karachi can report the missing manhole covers at the dedicated helpline 1334.

Last year, 71,000 covers were installed across various areas. He emphasized that protecting citizens’ lives is a top priority of city administration.

This move comes after the tragic death of an 8-year-old boy in Shah Faisal Colony on January 5, 2024, who fell into an open manhole.

The rescue officials rescued one child, but the body of the other was later found in a nearby drain.
