Karachi police to impose heavy fines on unlicensed drivers

The Karachi Traffic Police have issued a strong warning to drivers, announcing a crackdown on those operating vehicles without a valid license.

In a recent statement, the police made it clear that vehicles found without proper licensing would be impounded, and drivers would face hefty fines.

These new regulations are part of an effort to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by unlicensed drivers in the city. The following fines will be imposed for various types of vehicles:

  • Motorcycles: A fine of Rs. 1,000 for driving without a valid license.
  • Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs): A fine of Rs. 2,000 for driving without a valid license.
  • Cars and Jeeps: A fine of Rs. 1,500 for driving without a valid license.
  • Heavy Transport Vehicles: A fine of Rs. 2,500 for driving without a valid license.

The traffic police also stated that only vehicles with a valid learner’s permit or full driving license will be released if impounded.

Citizens have been urged to comply with traffic rules and ensure they possess a valid driving license before using any vehicle.

In a related development, Sindh government has introduced a new policy for vehicle number plates.

Under this policy, announced by the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department on December 18, all private vehicles will be issued white number plates featuring the Sindh Ajrak design, while commercial vehicles will be given yellow number plates with the same design.

The Excise department also clarified that from April 3, 2025, yellow number plates on private vehicles and black number plates on commercial vehicles will no longer be acceptable.
