The Pakistani government has reportedly blocked the passports of 4,700 Pakistanis currently imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to media reports, a total of 5,292 Pakistanis are incarcerated in the UAE on various criminal charges.
The federal government decided to block the passports of Pakistani nationals involved in criminal activities in abroad.
As a result, the passports of 2,470 individuals convicted on drug-related charges, 100 people involved in fraud, cheating, and sexual harassment, and 704 prisoners convicted of theft have been blocked.
Additionally, the passports of 216 Pakistanis involved in murder and robbery, as well as 375 individuals residing illegally in the UAE, have also been revoked.
The UAE authorities provided detailed crime reports to the Pakistani government, which led to the passport-blocking measures being implemented in accordance with the law.
This follows a similar action taken two months ago, when the passports of thousands of Pakistanis imprisoned in Saudi Arabia were also blocked.
