Winter chill intensifies: High-pressure weather system hits Karachi

Karachi is currently experiencing strong winds and a prolonged cold wave, as a high-pressure system affects much of Pakistan, according to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), winds in the city are expected to reach speeds of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour, with gusts in the northeastern areas possibly exceeding 25 kilometers per hour.

However, Sarfaraz – the Chief PMD, clarified that dust storm-like conditions are not expected.

The cold wave has caused temperatures to drop significantly, with the mercury expected to fall into single digits across Karachi.

This unusually cold spell is expected to continue in the coming days, bringing a stretch of cooler-than-usual weather across the region.

Earlier to this, Karachi has experienced its coldest night of 2024, with temperatures dipping to 8.9°C on Sunday night last week, as reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The temperature at Jinnah Terminal recorded a low of 8.9°C, while other areas in the city, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Shahrah-e-Faisal, saw temperatures of 10.5°C and 11.5°C, respectively, while, temperature in Mauri Pur reported at 12.5°C.

According to PMD, the weather in Karachi is cold and dry, with daytime temperatures expected to reach 27°C.
