Sindh to launch property tax project in Karachi

In a move to enhance the recovery, the Sindh government announced plans to launch a property tax project soon in Karachi.

The announcement came during the meeting of Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, with a high-level delegation of the World Bank to review the ongoing development initiatives, focusing on urban services, solar energy, and water management in the province.

CM Sindh disclosed that the bids for the property survey work in Karachi have been opened, aimed at increasing property tax collection, while the survey will begin by the end of December.

Regarding the Sindh Solar Energy Project, Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah discussed the Solar Energy Project, which has been initiated with a $100 million investment, including the establishment of a solar park, solarization of government buildings, and the installation of solar home systems.

The project has received approval for a one-year extension, until July 2026, while the land for the solar park has been secured in Manjhand, and electricity from NTDC is expected to be supplied by June 2028.

Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah further elaborated on the progress of the solar initiative, highlighting that the first batch of 100,000 solar home system kits has arrived in Karachi, with plans to purchase an additional 100,000 kits.

Additionally, the solarization of government buildings is set to begin this month.

CM Sindh also highlighted ongoing water and agriculture projects with a total cost of $292 million. To date, $102 million has been released, with plans for water resource management, water service delivery, and agricultural rehabilitation works.

Regarding urban development, Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani discussed the Competitive & Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) Project, a five-year initiative aimed at improving civic services and business facilities in Karachi.

The project, with a budget of $230 million, has seen $120 million disbursed so far, and public spaces have been developed across the city, while the three more public space developments are in the final stages.

Additionally, Minister Jam Khan Shoro provided an update on the Hydro Agro Informatics Program, detailing the progress of Akram Wah’s rehabilitation.

The implementation of the Akram Wah Resettlement and Social Management Plan is ongoing, with compensation payments for the affected families nearing completion.
