A staggering wave of financial irregularities has been uncovered in Karachi’s College Education Department, with senior officials implicated in the misuse of funds.
An audit report by the Auditor General of Pakistan, submitted to the Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, reveals corruption spanning from 2020 to 2022, with the Secretary College Education Department alone misusing Rs 22.5 million in salary payments.
The principals of three colleges were also implicated in spending Rs 3 million on purchases without quotations, while Government College for Women Shahrah Liaquat issued fake salaries totaling Rs 4.7 million to individuals holding identity cards from other provinces.
The report highlights further discrepancies, including Rs 11 million spent on unauthorized posts, Rs 7.2 million on honorary degrees, and Rs 1.22 billion allocated for constructing an illegal technical center at Cadet College Khairpur.
Additionally, Rs 52 million worth of purchases were made without proper tendering.
These findings point to systemic corruption within Karachi’s educational administration, calling for urgent action to hold those responsible accountable and to safeguard public resources.
