Major restrictions imposed around Masjid Al-Haram

The Mecca Municipality has imposed a complete ban on the sale of tobacco products in the vicinity of Masjid Al-Haram, ensuring a smoke-free environment around the holy site.

Municipality spokesperson Osama Al-Zaitouni confirmed that no shop or superstore in the central area has been granted permission to sell tobacco products.

Outside the central zone, the municipality has introduced strict regulations for tobacco sales.

Shops smaller than 100 square meters are prohibited from selling tobacco, while the larger stores must designate discreet, non-prominent spaces for such products and prominently display warnings about the health risks of smoking.

Earlier to this, the Ministry of Religious Affairs issued guidelines for Hajj pilgrims from Karachi, stressing that the COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for those aged 65 and above.

Pilgrims must submit their vaccination certificates in compliance with Saudi government requirements.

According to the ministry’s statement, the Pfizer COVID vaccine, approved by Saudi authorities, is available at designated centers in Karachi.

Pilgrims are advised to contact the Ministry of Health’s helpline at 1166 for information regarding vaccination procedures.
