Imran Khan declared guilty in May 9 cases

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been declared guilty by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore in cases linked to the May 9 incident.

The court denied bail in eight separate cases, citing substantial evidence against Khan, including video and audio recordings of him inciting violent acts.

The six-page verdict by Judge Manzar Ali Gul stated that witnesses testified about a conspiracy allegedly orchestrated by Khan at Zaman Park ahead of his anticipated arrest.

According to the testimony, Khan directed his supporters to disrupt state functions, resulting in attacks on military and government facilities.

The prosecution provided recordings of Khan allegedly rallying PTI leaders and supporters to adhere to his directives. They argued that undercover police, disguised as PTI supporters, overheard discussions that exposed the conspiracy.

The court corroborated this claim, stressing that Khan’s influential position made his statements particularly impactful, leading to widespread violence. Specific dates, May 7 and May 9, were identified as planning days for the unrest, which culminated in attacks on May 11.

Khan’s defense contended that he was in detention during the events and cited past cases where bail was granted under similar circumstances.

However, the court dismissed these arguments, emphasizing the gravity of the charges and Khan’s pivotal role in incitement.

The judgment also referenced a Lahore High Court decision involving PTI leader Ijaz Chaudhry, affirming Khan’s involvement in the alleged conspiracy.
