Major cities across Pakistan, including Karachi, experienced internet disruptions, with many citizens complaining that they were unable to access social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
As per ARY News reports, the interruptions coincide with the government’s security measures ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Islamabad.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior had earlier stated that internet and mobile restrictions would only apply to areas identified as high-security risks.
However, users across the country have reported difficulties in accessing essential services.
Many have been unable to send or receive calls and messages on WhatsApp, which potentially affected businesses, particularly those reliant on WhatsApp for international communication.
According to Down Detector, reports of outages on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and WhatsApp began circulating shortly after the internet disruptions, meanwhile, no official timeline has been provided for the restoration of services.
The government’s move to restrict connectivity has sparked frustration among citizens and online businesses, highlighting the challenges posed by such measures during critical economic times.
