Another defunct Saudi plane, which crash-landed at Karachi Airport 13 years ago, will be shifted from Karachi to Hyderabad tomorrow [November 20].
The MD-83 aircraft, weighing 60 tons and measuring 160 feet in length, will be transported for training purposes to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Training Center in Hyderabad.
The plane, previously used by a Saudi prince, made an emergency landing at Karachi Airport in 2011 after a technical fault with its nose wheel and was parked at the airport.
The aircraft, which has been abandoned in Karachi since December 25, 2011, will be moved by New Babar Cargo Movers using a giant trawler equipped with German technology.
According to Project Director Munir Alam, the journey will take the plane from Malir National Highway, passing through Gharo and Thatta, before reaching its final destination.
In order to avoid traffic disruptions, the plane has been divided into two parts, meanwhile, necessary permits and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) have been secured from relevant authorities for the operation.
This will be the second plane transferred to the CAA’s training facility in Hyderabad, following the recent transfer of a Boeing aircraft via the motorway.
