Chairman of Jinnah Town, Rizwan Abdul Sami, has announced the relocation of Karachi’s historic monument Globe Chowk – currently located near Islamia Science College on the university road – to a more prominent location.
Speaking at a press conference, Rizwan Abdul Sami highlighted that the monument, built in 1964, has lost its charm over time and it condition is deteriorating due to not getting attention from the authorities.
After consultations with relevant institutions, it has been decided to move the structure near National Bank Stadium, making it more visible to the public.
“The globe weighs sixty tons and will be shifted with the help of a crane. We’ve designed a new plan to ensure it retains its heritage value while becoming a centerpiece for visitors,” the chairman explained.
He added that discussions with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) resulted in no objections to the project, and the relocation process is expected to take about a month.
Meanwhile, the shifting work of the Globe roundabout will begin in the coming days.
