Pulse prices drop in Pakistan amid global dip

Following a global dip in pulse prices, the cost of various pulses in Pakistan’s wholesale market has significantly decreased, bringing relief to consumers amid rising costs of general commodities.

According to the Wholesale Grocers Association, the price of black peas has dropped by Rs 50 per kg since September while previously selling at Rs 400 per kg, Chana Dal is now available for Rs 360 per kg and is expected to reach Rs 300 per kg by next month.

Similarly, the price of dal mash has decreased from Rs 500 per kg to Rs 425 per kg.

Globally, pulse prices have fallen by over $100 per ton, dropping from $860 to below $750 per ton.

Association’s chairman, Rauf Ibrahim, attributes this drop to reduced demand from major buyers like India and Sri Lanka.

Earlier to this, the Utility Stores Corporation recently reduced sugar prices by Rs 13 per kg, now offering it at Rs 140 per kg.
